Final Logistics

  • Do not pack your passport:  You need it with you.
  • Make a copy of your passport to put in your suitcase.
  • Meet at the appropriate gate at JFK three hours before our scheduled departure.
  • You are allowed to bring only one suitcase (which you can carry easily) and one carry-on bag (that includes a purse).  If you have more we will have to ask you to ship it home from JFK.
    • Use tags provided by Accent
    • Do not lock your suitcase
    • Make sure you are not carrying items restricted by the TSA in your bags, including liquids, gels, etc.
  • If you are taking a domestic flight to JFK, do not (I repeat, do not) check your bags all the way through to Rome.
  • Money:  A credit card (which you can use to draw out cash) and/or a debit card is the best way to deal with money, although it is good to have a little cash as well.  Make sure to call your credit card company or bank and let them you will be in Italy.
  • Keep prescription drugs in your carry-on.  Keep them in the original bottles.
  • Check email regularly over Winter Break.  We will have updates for you.
  • Let your folks know that we are visiting a site immediately upon landing, so you will not be able to call home right away.  Dr. Gatti or Dr. Huber will call the Isabella Canon Centre once we arrive to let them know we are there safely.  If your parent(s)are panicky, have them call ICC.
  • Because we are going to Ostia right away, make sure to wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes on the plane.  (We will be doing a lot of walking that day, through dusty ruins!  Yeah!)
  • Check the weather in Italy online to pack appropriately.  Please refer to the packing guide (Blackboard) to make sure you have everything you need.
  • If you are not going to make it to JFK due to flight complications please contact us on our cell phones.
  • If you do have complications with your flights, please also call the Isabella Canon Centre at 336.278.6700.
  • Make sure you’re well rested we leave for Italy.  We “hit the ground running” when we arrive in Italy and few people are able to sleep on the plane.
